Kansas Rules That Actually Affect Your Garage Door

What is regulated statewide, what is local, and what is not regulated at all.

Kansas does not license garage door contractors at state level. Electrical work is regulated separately, which matters if a new opener needs a dedicated circuit rather than an existing outlet. Federal safety law is the part most people are unaware of: since 1993 every residential garage door opener sold in the United States has been required to have an external entrapment protection system, which in practice means photo-eyes. An opener without them should be replaced rather than repaired.
